Dirt Don't Hurt

Two years ago, when I bought a DSLR and signed up for my first photography class, I had one goal:  to take better photos of my would-not-sit-still-for-one-second 3 y.o. and her baby sis, who would soon follow in her footsteps.  I was so done with photography studios; the confined spaces, the tears (theirs) and the sweat (mine).

And now?  I never thought I'd say this but... Toddlers are kinda my favorite.  I can't plan for them; I can't pose them.  I turn my back for a second and they're diggin' in the dirt.  They pretty much just do their own thing and I pretty much just wear my running shoes flip-flops.☺  But I love the challenge.  I love shooting where they have room to move around and be themselves.  I love getting down on their level and being silly and waiting for the real smiles and belly laughs, or even the inquisitive who-is-this-crazy-camera-lady(?) stares.

One thing hasn't changed: I'm still sweating by the end.  But I wouldn't have it any other way.

  1. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only "glowing" at the end of a toddler session!!! These are great - I love them all. The second shot up from the bottom on the right - the little boy sitting and big brother's feet - is ADORABLE!
